Home / Mahmoud Mafee 
Dr. Mafee is a graduate of Tehran University Medical School, Iran. In 1972, he moved to the United States where he did his Radiology Residency at Albert Einstein University Hospital in New York and University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his Neuroradiology Head and Neck Radiology Fellowship under the mentorship of Professor Galdino Valvassori and Professor Glen Dobben at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Mafee remained as faculty on the Department of Radiology at University of Illinois, where he served as Professor and Chair of the Department for seven years. In 2006, Dr. Mafee accepted a faculty position at the University of California, San Diego, as Professor and Chief Section, Head and Neck Radiology. Dr. Mafee is an internationally renowned Radiologist with special interests in Neuro-base of the skull and head and neck imaging. Professor Mafee has over 230 publications and 27 books and book chapters. He has given numerous National and International lectures and many refresher courses in Radiological Meetings such as Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). He is a reviewer for Publication and has served as an Editorial Board Member in many journals in Radiology and Neuroradiology. Dr. Mafee has served as Guest Editor for five volumes of Radiologic Clinics of North America, and three volumes of Otolaryngologic Clinics of North America. Dr. Mafee was selected in 1993 as a Distinguished Scientist at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), has been the 2005 Gold Medal recipient of American Society of Head and Neck Surgery (ASHNR), 2005 Gold Medal recipient, Distinguished Scientist at University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine. Dr. Mafee has been selected by his peers to be included in the Best Doctors in America since 1996, and has been listed in 2010, 2011 San Diego’s Best Doctors and 2011 San Diego Super Doctors.
